West of Memphis (2012)

Watch Trailer

A powerful documentary by filmmaker Amy Berg, WEST OF MEMPHIS tells the story of the West Memphis Three.  The film chronicles the recent investigation that ultimately broke the case open and led to the freedom of three innocent men.

WEST OF MEMPHIS starts with a searing examination of the police investigation into the 1993 murders of three eight-year-old boys in the small town of West Memphis, Arkansas.  The film goes on to reveal hitherto unknown evidence surrounding the arrest and conviction of the other three victims of this shocking crime: teenagers Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, who were imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.

The film goes on to reveal personal insight into Echols’ eighteen years on death row and the fight to save his life.  With Berg’s unprecedented access to the inner workings of the defense, the film shows the investigation, research, and appeals process in a way that has never been seen before. WEST OF MEMPHIS reveals shocking and disturbing new information about a case that still haunts the American South.
