Deliver Us From Evil (2006)

Watch Trailer

Directed by Amy Berg, DELIVER US FROM EVIL is an Academy Award-nominated documentary about Catholic Priest and serial child molester, Father Oliver O’Grady.  The film chronicles Father O’Grady’s years as a priest in Northern California, where he used his position in the church to gain the trust of his victims and their families. During these years, O’Grady raped and molested dozens of children. For decades, the Catholic Church actively attempted to cover up O’Grady’s crimes, relocating him to various parishes around the United States. In 1993, O’Grady was convicted on four counts of “lewd and lascivious acts” and served seven years in a California State Penitentiary. He was then deported back to his native Ireland.

Amy Berg extensively interviews Father O’Grady, his victims, and their families about the repercussions of these events.  DELIVER US FROM EVIL makes a compelling statement about institutional power and the corruption that it engenders.

In addition to its Oscar-nomination, the film won several awards including WGA Documentary Award, NY Film Critics Circle Award, International Satellite Award, and Boston Film Critics-Best Documentary.
