Amy Berg and co-producers/subjects Lorri Davis and Damien Echols held an interview discussion on their documentary ‘West of Memphis’ (2012) at the Film Independent LACMA, which aired on LA’s radio channel KCRW.
There have been several accounts of the story of “the West Memphis Three” in the past twenty years, including Joe Berlinger’s Paradise Lost trilogy. But West of Memphis is a very different telling of a story that many people think they already know. It centers on the failure of justice in the case against the West Memphis Three, in which three teenagers — Jessie Misskelley, Damien Echols, and Jason Baldwin — were arrested for the murders of three 8-year old children: Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore. This bonus episode of The Treatment took place at LACMA’s Bing Theater among Elvis Mitchell, director Amy Berg, and subjects/co-producers Damien Echols and Lorri Davis after a screening of the film.
