Thorsten is a NYC based Cinematographer and Director working on Documentary feature films and Commercials. He was born and raised in southern Germany. He started a job on set at age sixteen and studied the craft of both, editing and cinematography, learning from some of the most accomplished documentary filmmakers in the country. He has lived, worked, and traveled extensively in both, the largest cities to the most desolate regions of the world. Working on documentaries for theatrical release and primetime television. He is passionate in making films that illuminate the human condition and bring about social change.
Thorsten spent many years in Northern Africa and the Middle East working on documentaries about the political changes of the region and the dynamic social challenges, including a year long stay in Iraq during the war in 2003. Over a period of more than a decade Thorsten was based in Cairo, Tunis, Washington, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. In 2012 Thorsten, his wife and their two children moved to Brooklyn, NY where he works as a freelance Cinematographer. He is a founding member of the NYC Kamera Kollektiv, a boutique agency for documentary cinematographers. Thorsten is fluent in English, German, Spanish and Portuguese.
